| Introduction | I never thought I'd leave New Brunswick, let alone Canada. That just goes to show how much I know. Buried beneath an everlasting love for the quiet forests and majestic coastline of my native land, was a thirst for adventure. I have a very normal sounding background in environmental biology from the university of New Brunswick, but from there I decided to try a different road and see where it lead. I participated in Mennonite Central Committee's young adult exchange program SALT in 2012-2013 in Cambodia. Something struck a chord in me and I wanted to stay. I served with MCC as an agriculture extensionist in Mozambique for two years accompanying farmers and communities as they experiment with applying conservation agriculture principles in their fields. Now I am based in Zimbabwe co-facilitating a young adult exchange program "Seed" in the Southern Africa region. It is our aim to see young leaders approach agriculture development in their communities with creation care values, critical thinking skills, and a deep understanding of the link between food security and peaceful communities. |
