About me

Occupation2007 Soros Justice Fellow
LocationAustin, Texas, United States
IntroductionThis past March I began working with the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (TCADP) to conduct public education around the intersection of the death penalty and severe mental illness in Texas. This is part of a larger national coalition effort that aims to prohibit the death penalty for severely mentally ill offenders and is funded by the U.S. Justice Fund of the Open Society Institute. My fellowship entails building a coalition of criminal justice reform, anti-death penalty, and mental health advocates, developing and disseminating resource and educational materials, reaching out to faith communities, waging clemency campaigns for severely mentally ill death row inmates, and promoting alternatives to the death penalty for mentally ill offenders. Prior to moving to Austin, I served for five years as the Program Associate for Amnesty International USA’s Program to Abolish the Death Penalty in Washington DC. I have been active in the abolition/human rights movement for more than 12 years and have held leadership positions with Amnesty International and various anti-death penalty groups in Kentucky and Illinois.
