Occupation developing digital libraries

Introduction My whole life is focused on books, both as a consumer and in my work. First as a subject librarian at the University Library in Leiden, later as deputy curator. In that capacity, I was also involved in ancient oriental manuscripts, I studied these texts and was responsible for the purchase of that material.

Later on, I got into what is now called 'IT', but in the past we said 'Automation'. Today I work in the library of the Peace Palace trying to develop a digital library. But I still buy books! I read them even!

The combination of expertise in books, library automation, some programming and some database management skills is rare, at least here in The Netherlands. It allows me, however, to use, develop, advise and instruct others working in the world of libraries. And I love it!
