Introduction Derrick Bang has written film reviews and commentary since 1974 for newspapers in Yolo County, California, most recently – and currently – for The Davis Enterprise. He was a staff writer and contributing editor for Mick Martin and Marsha Porter’s “Video Movie Guide” during that annual book’s run from 1985 through 2007. He has written several books on Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts, starting with 2000’s popular and Eisner Award-nominated “50 Years of Happiness.” Other recent projects have included extensive liner notes for CD re-issues of classic albums by jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, famed for the hit single "Cast Your Fate to the Wind," and remembered these days as the composer who put some jazz swing into Charlie Brown's step, for a series of animated Peanuts television specials. 2012 saw the publication of "Vince Guaraldi at the Piano," his biography of the San Francisco-based jazz pianist. Derrick's newest project, released in April 2020, is a two-volume study of crime, spy, gumshoe and action jazz in film and television: "Crime and Spy Jazz on Screen, 1950-1970" and "Crime and Spy Jazz on Screen Since 1971."
