IntroductionGrew up in Kuna, Idaho on a dairy farm. I was sort of shy in high school and even college, before going to Brazil with the foreign service. That experience changed a lot, including the shyness, which got me very interested in how cultures collide and hybridize. Along the way, I have been mostly interested in media, particularly the role they play in and between cultures. I have been interested in other countries and cultures for a long time, which took me first into the foreign service and then back into the academy. Writing and teaching have turned out to be a great life.
