| Introduction | My name is William Tyndale. I was born in 1493 in a small town near the Welsh border. I went to Magdalen College at Oxford (a prep school) and I was in the class of 1515. After my prep school years, I was accepted into Cambridge. However, my experience at Cambridge wasn't the best because of all of the strict, Lutheran ideas that all of my friends believed. I left in 1520 and got a job as a tudor to John Walsh's kids. This helped to pay off the bills. But I also got to visit with the local "religious" clergy members who came to visit my boss. I was appalled at their ignorance of the Bible and actually argued with several of the men. I am a strong supporter of the Bible being read by the common people- not just high church people- and translated into the common language. I am currently writing letters to political leaders, such as our King Henry VIII, urging for the translation of the Bible to English. Please pray for me. |
