| Introduction | I've taught biology (genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, botany, environmental science and ecology) for over 20 years, mostly at San Jose State University. I now teach part-time at the University of Maine at Farmington. My research is mainly in conservation genetics which has included the population genetics and taxonomy of redwoods, spotted owls, steelhead trout and spineflowers. My original training was in agricultural science, so I'll be returning to that while in Nepal by doing some potato genetics. I do some forest ecology consulting on the side and write a column for the Sempervirens Fund, a redwood forest conservancy, called "Ask the Redwood Doctor". |
