IntroductionJennifer A. Hackett received B.A. degrees in Biology and Chemistry from DePauw University where she was awarded The Albert E. Reynolds Prize in Biology. In 2003, she received her Ph.D. in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University where she studied telomere dysfunction with Carol Greider and was awarded a Young Investigator Research Award. In 2003, she was awarded The Harold Weintraub Graduate Student Award from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She completed a postdoc in 2006 with Stephen Elledge at Harvard. Volunteering with Boston Cares motivated her to join the NYC Teaching Fellows in 2006 and earn an M.S.Ed. In 2008, she began teaching Biology, Chemistry, and a college-level Advanced Molecular Biology course at the Dalton School. She has specialized in teaching science through inquiry, receiving training from BSCS in the 5E Inquiry method. She and her students have collaborated with Jef Boeke at Hopkins and NYU on research connected to the Synthetic Yeast Genome Project. In the summer of 2019 she became an educator at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's DNA Learning Center. The views on this site are the author's and do not reflect the views of CSHL.
