| Introduction | Heiko Weiner was born in Suhl, a smaller city in the Turingian Forest in the former East Germany. He spent about 18 years close by, living between Oberhof and Steinbach-Hallenberg until he moved to the United States in 1994. Heiko has climbed 40+ peaks in the US, Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia of greater than 14,000 ft. He climbed Aconcagua in Argentina with 12 people from nine different countries and Mount McKinley with a team of six people from the United States, Canada and England. He has also climbed El Pico de Orizaba in Mexico twice, Denali (Alaska) and more recently Apamayo and Sajama in Bolivia. In addition to mountaineering, Heiko enjoys running. In 2007 he participated in the first, non-stop around-the-world relay (“Blue Planet Run”) for safe drinking water (www.blueplanetrun.org); as a member of an international team (20 runners, 13 countries) covered 15,200 miles (16 countries, 3 continents) in 95 days/nights. He has participated in countless road races, from 10Ks and marathons to trail runs up to 47 miles long. When he’s not scaling mountains or running marathons, Heiko enjoys reading adventure novels. |
