| Introduction | After being medically retired for 10 years, I have jumped headlong into the pursuit of developing my artistic inclinations. I have painted, dabbled in photography and have produced works in stained glass. I have, however, always had an advid interest in ceramics. Seven years ago, I was given the opportunity to participate in a local pottery program offered through the city Parks and Recreation program. This program centered on hump building projects. After a period, I felt the inevitable pull to the pottery wheel. In our area of the world, we are fortunate to have both an abundance of very skilled potters willing to share their knowledge but we also have a school staffed by excellent staff all with MFA's in pottery who teach a degree program allowing those of us interested in pursuing this avenue the opportunity to obtain a degree in pottery. Some will move on to higher degrees and others will take their skills and move into the world of commercial pottery. |
