| Introduction | Kenny Bridgers is a graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Sociology. He currently serves as the Youth Organizer for Justice for DC Youth (JDCY). As JDCY's Youth Organizer he has assisted with the implementation of a program called the Prison to College Pipeline, which collaborates with student volunteers at the University of Maryland. The Pipeline works with incarcerated youth at the Oak Hill Youth Center (which closed in May 2009) and the New Beginnings Youth Development Center, tutoring and mentoring multiple times a week during the academic year. Kenneth is an avid and passionate youth advocate who wants to encourage and help youth find their voices in a society that often silences them. He has ambitions to one day direct his own social service program that will be dedicated towards empowering young people and helping them define who they are from both an individual and collective perspective. He enjoys the arts, writing and reading, hip hop and quiet time- which is often hard to come by. |
