| Introduction | I was born in the beautiful island of S. Miguel (St. Michael) in the Azores. The island of S. Miguel, Açores, is the largest island of the archipelago; its culture is 500 hundred years old, and we can find there fine architecture, popular feasts, and food that will satisfy different people and tastes. Cooking and baking has been my passion since I was twelve years old. At the time I was trying to get cake recipes. When I reached fourteen years old I got my first good recipe for a cake from a small magazine dedicated to young girls. It was my first successful cake, baked to perfection; no more soggy or slumping cakes. My mother was the first person to introduce me to cooking. I started by sauteing onions, making omelets, brewing tea, clean fish and cooking it by frying it. With time I started to experiment with some recipes, and even changed these a little to meet my mother's taste. I learned to cook using wine, and making marinades for the beef dishes. Now, older and much wiser, cooking is always an adventure in the world of preparing, smelling, tasting, and consuming wonderful food dishes. |
