| Introduction | I am a 40-something mom of a precious little girl with special needs and three neurotypical children. K has a rare chromosomal syndrome called 22q13 deletion syndrome, aka Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, that affects all areas of development. She's also diagnosed with a slew of other conditions. Her syndrome was diagnosed prenatally with amniocentesis, so she received early intervention services since she was born. Coordinating her care, being an advocate and an expert on her syndrome, and raising three neurotypical children is more than a full-time job. It's the hardest, most rewarding job I've ever done. |
