IntroductionTo give voice to the voiceless through my art, I research endangered species of the mid-Atlantic region and integrate the threatened flora and fauna into my work, inviting viewers into conversation about the plight of regional endangered species. My drawings, paintings, and sculptures are made using reference material collected while hiking throughout Maryland with a camera and sketchbook along with internet research of images of rarely seen species as identified by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service, and the Natural Heritage Program. Over time, the regional species have become a part of my visual vocabulary. The Wren, Sandpiper, and Joe-Pye Weed recall and symbolize relationships and life experiences so that the works are personal documentation as well as activist action.
