| Introduction | Schumacher Chevrolet first opened its doors in July of 1932. It was started by Harold Schumacher at the age of 24, with an 8th grade education, using $500 borrowed from his father-in-law. He honed his business skills during the Great Depression and made flame throwers for the U.S. Army in the back of the dealership during WWII. In 1958 his son, Kenneth Schumacher, began working with him. Unfortunately in 1998 both Harold and Kenneth passed away and Harold's daughter, Judith Schumacher-Tilton, inherited the business. Schumacher Chevrolet still operates out of its original Main Street location and despite its one-car showroom, it is now New Jersey's third largest volume Chevrolet dealership. In 2011 it was the New York Metro area's largest volume GM Certified Preowned dealer. Recent awards include Chevrolet's Mark of Excellence Award for three years running, the 2012 Northeast finalist for Time Magazine's "Dealer of the Year" award and the 2011 Women's Choice Award by WomenCertified. Schumacher Chevy has also been featured on the CBS Early Show and the BBC News. |
