IntroductionBorn Scrounge. My pioneer ancestors were blacksmiths. One of the genetic characteristics of a good blacksmith besides massive forearms and the ability to withstand heat and pain is the ability to look at an object for what it can be rather than what it is. The old saw about turning a sword into a plowshare (and vice-versa) is apt. This was quite literally done regularly. A blacksmith's best asset was his scrap pile. This is where the raw material for his trade came from. My grandpa had the best scrap pile on the side of his hand built shanty-like shop. I could browse for hours imagining what the parts were from and what they could be used for. I owe my hard core addiction to diving to a friend tha loaned me a copy of "The Art and Science of Dumpster Diving" by Hoffman. Great to live in a land of plenty where consumerism causes unbelievable bounty in our waste stream. Divers - The ultimate ECO-freaks. If you ain't diving, you ain't green!
