| Introduction | My life is an open book, with several pages torn out, entire chapters deleted and/or altered, and some obsure footnotes in a language yet to be discovered. I was born in the desert and remained there until the heat proved too much for me. Now I live in a valley near the ocean. I practice alchemy in a cave and am thought to be a witch by many of the townspeople. In some ways, they are right to be afraid.
