| Introduction | Kovilpatti was one of the sub-stations of Ilayarasanendal parish till the year 1953. Due to the rapid growth of trade and population it became an important centre of small-cale industries and business. Moreover it is situated on the trunk road Madurai to Kanyakumari, which makes transportation very easier. Side by side naturally the catholic population also increased. Hence the pastoral work necessitated the establishment of Kovilpatti into a separate parish. Thus on 14th September 1953 it was erected a new parish with Rev. Fr. Susaimanickam as its first parish priest. The people of Kovilpatti are very, loving people. The entire priests who have been there have done a wonderful ministry. |
