| Introduction | After graduating from Binghamton University in 2008 with a degree in History, I moved to Mindelo, Cape Verde, as a Peace Corps Volunteer. After two years of working at SOS Children's Village, I decided to stay in Mindelo where I am working and enjoying life. One of my favorite quotes that I believe really sums up the reason I decided to join the Peace Corps and my mission in life is Reese Witherspoon's Oscar acceptance speech for Walk the Line: "...people used to ask June how she was doing. And she used to say, "I'm just tryin' to matter." And, I know what she means, you know. I'm just trying to matter and live a good life and make work that means something to somebody." |
