Location Springfield, Missouri
Introduction Even though I have fished most of my life, the passion and obsession began with a fly rod twenty years ago with my friend and mentor, the late William Butts Sr. He knew I fished local waters with a fly rod, poppers, and fished without waders through warm water streams tempting pan fish. Bill invited me to his home, where he began my fly tying instruction. He would tell of cold waters streams in Missouri state parks, trout in Lake Taneycomo and local streams. Bill fueled my desire to learn and explore the sport of fly-fishing and fly tying. I have, over the years collected and read over two-hundred books on the subject, including works by Skues, Halford, Jennings, Bergman and many other authorities on the subject of fly fishing and fly tying. I have discovered not much has changed over the many years except with advances in the equipment and a better selection of fly tying materials. However, many of the older flies still take fish from our streams. Thus, the joy of fly-fishing is passing knowledge from one to others. We borrow ideas and original thought from the past as we continue our journey with a fly rod in hand.
