| Introduction | I grew up in a church-going family and did my best to stay with the program, but started to drift a bit in my teens. I eventually returned and stayed active in the church, and eventually got married to a wonderful Christian woman. Sometimes it felt like there was just a little something missing, though. It turned out to be a big something. Recently I've come to realize that, although I "said the sinner's prayer" when I was very young, I did not have any real conception of what I actually prayed, and so I might not have actually repented of my sins, and so I finally did that, maybe for the second, but at LEAST for the first. Since then God has started to truly grow me spiritually. I'm not actually sure if I'm a new Christian or have been for 35 years, but, praise God, I can now actually say that I truly AM a Christian! It took me a long time to realize these simple facts because I was too close to the truth - I couldn't see the forest for the trees. If this sounds like what your spiritual path has been like, please take a few minutes to understand that true biblical salvation requires both repentance AND faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. |
