IntroductionProfessor Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Saeed Siddiqi(born 1949 at UP, India),a Meritorious Professor of Muslim Legal Theory and Jurisprudence, recently retired from the University of Karachi, Pakistan at the age of 60 years after a long career (almost 38 years)of post-graduate teaching and academic administration.He did his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, in 1981 from the department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. He is an intelluctual of Pakistan, and well-known for his innovative Ideas and critical thinking in the field of religious studies. He has been a regular participant of the weekly sittings at the House of Khalid Ishaque Advocate and at the Monthly Thematic discussions at Dr. Manzoor’s home. His book “Early Development of Zakat law and Ijtihad; A study of Evolution of Ijtihad in the Development of Zakat Law during Ist Century AH / Seventh century AD” is a well acclaimed and internationally cited book. His pioneering work in the field of data-retrieval, namely “Al-Mu`jam ul-Mufahras li ‘l-Mustalahat fi Fiqhi ‘l-Zakat in 4 volumes is a useful tool for indexing and data-retrieval in the field of Islamic Studies.
