| Introduction | I’m a female dog. My breed is Hungarian, I grew up in Slovakia, and I’m moving to the United States. I was born in late 2007, got pregnant in late 2008, was abandoned in a roadside ditch in the spring of 2009, was rescued to the Kosice Animal Shelter, and that night had nine puppies. A big picture of the kids and me was in the local newspaper. We all stayed together at the shelter until the pups were adopted (which didn’t take too long). The people at the shelter did something to me that means I can never have any more puppies. Since I’m a purebred beast most of the folks who were interested in adopting me quickly lost interest when they found this out. So I stayed in my chicken wire cage with two other dogs until the autumn of 2009. I had a lot of time to think and lots of things to think about. Prospective adopters came and went for months until two Americans sloshed through the mud to my cage and quickly passed me by. But they came back the next day and picked me to adopt. I couldn’t understand a word they said. I’ve been living with Traci and Drew since that day in a flat in downtown Kosice. Now its time for them to repatriate to America and I am going with them. |
