| Introduction | David Smith Sr. recently retired and now lives in Utah with his family on a little farm in the mountains where they raise goats, chickens and children, mostly children. Most of his life David has held onto two dreams. He wanted to live in the mountains, and he wanted to be a cowboy. He says, "l have a Stetson hat and some boots. All I need now is a six-shooter and an over-the-hill horse and I'll be a cowboy." David has written books and short stories for almost thirty-five years. Now that he's retired, he has time for publishing. After completing a Masters degree at USU, he collected his wife and two children into a car he built himself, and ran away to join the circus. For the last thirty-six years he has performed as a human cannonball around the world. He did over nine thousand shot without injury; the last at age sixty-nine. Many of these shots were over Ferris wheels. He attributes this record to a helping hand from above. Where did the cannons come from? David says, "God made them; he used my hands." The Smiths have eleven children, most of who have been or are presently cannonballs. If you want to see him and his children in action, Google 'Cannonball Smith'. |
