| Introduction | Mona de Vestel is a writer and performer. She is the author of King Leopold's Daughter, a memoir recounting the effects of colonialism on her Belgian/African family (in submission.) She is also the author of a novel One String Guitar – about the Rwandan genocide. She is at work on a channeled manuscript entitled LOVE IN A TIME OF WAR - a book about love. Mona was a cast member in director Ping Chong’s latest Undesirable Elements play on the Congo: Cry for Peace: Voices from the Congo. These plays are “community-specific oral history theater works that examine the lives of people born in one culture but currently living in another, either by choice or by circumstance.” The script developed for the play is based on real-life personal and historical narrative from the participants, including Mona. In collaboration with composer Leo Crandall, Mona also wrote, directed and performed in her one-woman show Spark: The Laws of Healing. Mona grew up in Brussels, Belgium and now lives in Palm Springs. |
