About me

Introduction I’m a fifth-generation Australian descended from wild Highlanders and weird Germans. My first memories are of old ladies squealing ‘oh what a beautiful colour’ and old men winking at me and saying ‘you’ll be a Rita Hayworth one day’. So I was very proud of my special status until one day my blonde boy-cousin threw flour over my face and said he wanted to see what I'd look like without freckles. That was the first shock of my warped suburban upbringing. It was more Twin Peaks than Neighbours, yet I still managed to be the girl-most-likely-to-achieve until the hormones cut in. Then I started experimenting with everything – schools, courses, belief systems, sex, drugs, music, cities and careers. Thanks to bluff and blarney, I worked my way from the neo dada art fringes to the senior ranks of big corporations. In the process, I met an astonishing array of people, from famous politicians, scientists and artists to equally fascinating but unknown lap dancers, drug lords, gypsies and hermits. I’ve had a more varied life than most and now I’m mining my impressions to write fiction. I'm currently working on a novel about a red-haired ex goth.
