Introduction	I wish our discipline maintained the elementary-school-style title "Language Arts," because that is so much closer to the reality of the subject matter. We study the art of language and its representation through speaking and writing. We listen and read, too; these are not passive pursuits, but as active as anything we can do. We think and learn.
