Introduction | I've traveled and lived in many places, and there are many more I'd like to see and hang out in. I read voraciously and music is a primary element in my life. I love to sing and performing on stage is better than any drug I have ever consumed. My mind never shuts off and new ideas pop up regularly, to be examined, studied and either incorporated or discarded, depending on my conclusions. I watch the planet move along with great interest; the insights into behavior and the natural occurrences always fascinate me. I love to cook when I have the time; I love hiking, weight lifting and the sound of water, any kind of water, from the greatest ocean to the tiniest stream. |
Interests | Music, film, books, state of the planet, entrepreneurship, awesome natural beauty, learning as much as possible, travel, word games, strong statements. |
Favorite Movies | This favorite movies, music and books stuff is always too much for me - I like so many in a large amount of genres that I can't begin to list my likes - dislikes are easier - I hate remakes, predictable plot lines and bad writing, directing, acting and cinematography. I feel there is way too much emphasis placed on special effects as opposed to content in today's movie market, so I tend towards either the indie or foreign film markets frequently. I want an absorbing experience, whether it is a great horror movie or even a well written chick flick (example being Julie and Julia, which had superb acting). Be it a powerful social statement, a great animated film a well written Western or a documentary or biography of a subject I am interested in, I just love the cinema when it is done right. Of course, all of this is subjective and what I love, another can just as easily hate - but isn't that what makes people interesting and can spark stimulating conversations? |
Favorite Music | I will coin a Hot Topic phrase here and say that music = life and to me, every moment in my life can be marked with a soundtrack.. More on that later when blogging begins in earnest. |
Favorite Books | I read so compulsively and frequently, that I was known to read the ingredients on the condiments bottles on the table when I was younger and not allowed to bring a book to the table. Just like movies, it's not so much about content as it is the craft in terms of what I like to read (Heinz never had very good content on the ketchup bottle :)). My reading interests are wide ranging and diverse and my rooms are covered in stacks of books that I am slowly working to reduce. I am on a book buying moratorium until I make some inroads into these piles, but somehow I always end up compromising when I see an extraordinary book that I simply MUST read. I will freely admit this is an obsession of mine and will be part of my life forever. I love sharing books with my mother and daughter, however it is very infrequent that the three generations agree on one title -- it HAS occurred occasionally though, and when it does, I am quite delighted. I suppose The Secret Life of Bees would be a 3 generational hit in our fam. |
