| Introduction | Careers in law and newspaper reporting, with some teaching thrown in, have led me to spend much of my time working on natural resource issues: coldwater conservation, public lands, watershed restoration, wildlife and fisheries management. These days I work with a national coldwater conservation group, Trout Unlimited, on a project which promotes and organizes watershed restoration across the unglaciated (or "Driftless", for its lack of glacier-ground rocks and gravel) area of the Upper Mississippi River Basin. Issues arise and need to be investigated and responded to by people with strong interests, using a strategic planning approach and thoughtful leadership. My writing includes examining issues, questioning interesting people, exploring wild places, and entertaining with lighter, more humorous pieces and memoirs. Enjoy! |
