| Introduction | I came to Alaska for a week long vacation back in 1986. Because I enjoyed the natural beauty and the strong sense of community I found here, I extended my vacation that year for three additional months, until I finally had to return to my then financial home and pay for the trip. However, I was hooked. Then in 1990 when I got the chance to move up here, I jumped at it. I settled in here nicely, am now married and together we raise our two boys.... well, they are young men now. I have been involved in art with all my life, enjoying early lessons through both school and private sources (Gillcrease Museum, Phillbrook, Ect.) My Paintings are currently influenced by the stylistic elegance and simplicity of the 1920's Art Deco movement, tempered with the Alaskan beauty that surrounds us daily. I am drawn to the clear brilliant colors and serendipitous nature of acrylics and watercolors; glazed in layers to bring forth a sense of remembrance. Thus my subjects tent toward a reality that only exists in a shared cultural nostalgia. As to Fiber Arts, I'm a beginner. I spin, mainly because I make spindles... started by fixing one for my wife, then slowly got into making them. |
