Introduction My name is Mark Kenneth Gardner, and welcome to my blog, A History Garden. I am a graduate of URI (1988) and Rhode Island College (2012), with a Master of Arts in History -- my thesis: “As Publick As Possible: Democratic Localism and Political Economy in a Rhode Island Town Government, 1760-1820.” I teach US History at Chariho High School. I am president of the RI Council for the Social Studies, state coordinator for Rhode Island Model Legislature, and serve on educational advisory committees for the RI Dept. of Ed and RI Historical Society. I have also been a trustee on the board of the South County History Center, chair of the Coventry (RI) Historic District Commission, and was Archivist and the current Historian at the Western Rhode Island Civic Historical Society. I am working on several public history projects, in particular “Lost Mill Towns of South County,” an ambitious study of Washington County RI that has been made into a series of related public history presentations, an adult-ed course, and eventually, a book.
