IntroductionStella Arbeláez Tascón, born in Cali, Colombia, moved to New York City as a teenager. She graduated from FIT-SUNY, earning an A.A.S. in Fashion Illustration and a B.F.A. in Fine Arts Illustration before attending the Art Students League of New York. A former special effects animation artist at Walt Disney, Warner Bros., and DreamWorks Feature Animation Studios, her credits include The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Iron Giant, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron amongst others. After a devastating divorce, Stella thru-hiked the 1,130-mile Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) in 2020. This transformative journey became the foundation for the body of work that formed her MFA thesis in Studio Arts at the University of Central Florida (UCF), completed in 2025. She continues her artistic research while working as an educator, viewing teaching as an extension of her service-oriented studio practice. In this blog, Stella shares her projects, reflections, and creative processes as an ever-evolving artist. From reportage illustration and writing to studio work, DIY tools, and household projects, the blog offers a glimpse into her artistic—and occasionally personal—world.
