| Introduction | At Seminole Ridge SECME, we explore engineering with rocketry, robotics, racing mousetrap powered vehicles, and balsa bridge building. SECME, Inc. (a national non-profit formerly known as the Southeastern Consortium of Minorities in Engineering) annually offers its premier teacher professional development experience, the Annual SECME Summer Institute, to focus on K-12 science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) classroom best practices and national student competitions in partnership with one of its 42 member engineering universities. We are not a prescribed curriculum. All SECME activities are aligned to national standards. Additionally, we consult with the Florida Department of Education and local education leadership to assure we are aligned with state standards and local school needs. SECME is a unique alliance that focuses on equity in STEM K-12 opportunities and college access. In recognition of the FL Dept. of Ed and the School Districts of Palm Beach County’s commitment, we want to give the community every opportunity to learn about SECME and how to collaborate in the future. |
