Introduction Welcome to the IPL Collaborative, a safe place for discussing and learning about miscarriage and other involuntary pregnancy loss. Our hope is that through sharing individual stories of pregnancy loss, as well as the academic literature related to the psychosocial impact of miscarriage and pregnancy loss, we can raise awareness of the frequency of miscarriage and lift the shroud of secrecy surrounding it. All too often women and their partners feel social pressure to conceal their pregnancy in the event that their pregnancy ends in miscarriage. Unfortunately, what most don't realize until they are faced with pregnancy loss is that they need the social support and the recognition that what they experienced was real loss. Our culture, unknowingly sends the message to expecting parents that they should not share their pregnancy in its most vulnerable phase, suggesting, not so subtly, that they should not share their miscarriage, should it occur. We hope you find our blog helpful. Please feel free to contribute and share in breaking the silence.
Interests The IPL Collaborative was started by three social science faculty members and friends who have all experienced their own involuntary pregnancy loss and wanted to channel their experience into something positive.
