| Introduction | Bonjour, I'm A. Waif, that is to say A Woman Alone In France. My story is complicated and will probably be the subject of another blog but not just yet. In the meantime I've started this blog because it occurred to me that I am very much in the habit of picking up hitchhikers. It's not such a strange habit, especially where I live, which is in the southern french countryside. Local transport is almost non existent, it is most frequent during school terms. So, if you don't have a car you're not going to get very far at all. It's considered quite normal to thumb a lift. The people who are trying to get from A to B are many and varied. I've had some very engaging people in my car, complete strangers who would become 'friends' for the duration of the journey. I thought that it would be interesting to make a record of the people who take a ride with me. All the photos are posted with the full permission of my passengers. |
