| Introduction | I was raised in Nebraska as the middle of three children in a family of five. In 1991, I married the man of my dreams. By the time we moved to Grand Island, we'd been married a decade, lived in 4 states, and welcomed three baby girls into our hearts. But that was 10 years ago, and my kids have long since surpassed the phase of tying their own shoes. Now they're actually helpful. So in 2010, I saw my opportunity to finish the degree I'd begun 20 years prior. Last December, I graduated from UNK with a B.A. degree in education and an endorsement in language arts, 7-12. And today I'm happy to say I teach 90-some of the best seventh graders. When I look into the hopeful eyes of my students, I'm reminded that each of them has his/her own stories as well. My job is not only to give them the tools required of storytelling, but also to convince them that their words are capable of changing the world. Because they are. |
