Also, Soul Kitchen, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (the original), Big Night, Office Space, Ondine, Crazy Heart, Phantom Of The Opera, Walk The Line, Food Inc., Yesterday, Like Water For Chocolate, Sideways, Aviator, Angels In The Dust, the entire series of The Tudors....Also, make sure you see Fast Food Nation! |
| Favorite Music | This is a LONG list. Music is transforming. Mood altering. Memorable. Emotional. Amazing. I am continuously inspired by so many different styles, artists, sounds, groups, songs, bands . . . it's a lifelong journey. Most recently discovered: Beth Hart!; Trampled Under Foot. Newest love: IL VOLO (3 energy-giving, super talented teenage tenors from Italy)- Chills! I am also into smooth reggae from Jahcoustix & The Dubios Neighbourhood, B.E.T., Bob Marley classics, Willi Williams and Joseph Israel. I enjoy the amazingly talented Pink Martini. A beautiful collection of crystal clear recordings with French and Cuban influences. Cool. Also, you must check out Federico Aubele for sexy Spanish guitar music (ala Benise) combined with a kind of urban, electronica twist. Hot. I still love Benise. I love Melvin Taylor. I love the blues and I cannot ever unlove the guitar. I'm definitely a guitar freak. I'm also into a lot of old classics, swingy lounge music, country Italian, swanky old French stuff, Cuban lounge, Italian American (think Dean and Frankie). It's an ever-increasing repertoire of favorites. Plain White Ts with songs like "Meet Me In California" do it for Katie also. More: Check out Bajofondo, Gotan Project, Nasser Kilada, Julieta Venegas, Bally Sagoo and a bunch of various tracks from the Buddha Lounge collections. Lots of great international mood changers. | Favorite Books | Kitchen Confidential (from 10 years ago) written by the unbelievably bright, arrogant and cocky Anthony Bourdain. There's something about this guy that you just have to like, even if you don't, LOL. You'll fly through the book. I loved it. Also great . . . Julia Child's, My Life in Paris and . . . Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point. All highly recommended! Wonderful vegetable reference cookbook: VEGETABLES From Amaranth to Zucchini, The Essential Reference, by Elizabeth Schneider. Oh, I also loved Jacques Pepin's book, "The Apprentice, My Life In The Kitchen". Excellent life story! Newest cookbook: Food & WIne's Best Of The Best (best recipes from this year's top cookbooks)....I'm sure something from the book will pop up on this blog sometime soon... |
