| Introduction | Until I retired in September, 2006, I was Keeper of Natural History at Derby City Museum. I still retain a great interest in wildlife and its conservation and regularly walk and cycle in the countryside. I am a keen photographer and also do landscape paintings in acrylics and chalk pastels. I was until recently a committee member of the Friends of Allestree Park and Editor of the Annual Journal of Derby Natural History Society. I am also interested in history and architecture, being passionate about medieval churches. I care deeply about how our towns and cities look and believe a pleasant environment is essential to mental well-being. This blog is my opportunity to have a rant at how our surroundings, especially those of my home town, are being reduced to mediocrity as a result of actions by by our elected 'representatives', commercial interests and unenlightened citizens.
