IntroductionI was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, at age 54. I've documented my experience in this blog and here. Interviewed in April 2009 by San Francisco Magazine about how my photos have helped me reach out to others about the importance of mammograms. The New York Times included my photo in "Picture Your Life After Cancer." I am grateful. Sept 2008, one week before my annual mammogram, I felt a sore spot. 10/3/08, diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. Mammograms, ultrasound, MRI, core-needle biopsy, bilateral mastectomy on 11/20/08, no reconstruction. I finally have the flat chest i've always wanted! Stage 1, 1.2cm (1mm from chest wall), Grade 3, ER-, PR-, HER2- (triple negative). Sentinel node biopsy removed 2 nodes, both negative. My hero: Dr. Mark Moasser at UCSF. Chemo: Jan 2009, Adriamycin/Cytoxan every two weeks for four cycles, Taxol every two weeks for four cycles. Radiation: 33 treatments of Tomotherapy radiation.
