| Introduction | On October 15th I checked into a monthlong inpatient treatment program. I have long suffered from depression. During the course of treatment for depression I became addicted to Ativan. I also began drinking to relieve the stress and self medicate my depression. The combination of alcohol and Ativan was not good. In the days since I have been attending AA meetings and have had my eyes opened to grace in a way that I haven't experienced in 55 years in the Church. And there are many lessons to learn that are transforming my life. I am sharing some of these thoughts on my blog as I continue in recovery. I am struck by how much we as a Church can learn from those 'drunks' meeting in our basements. . . |
