IntroductionI have enjoyed 2 careers, one in Urban Planning and Community Development, leading to the 2nd, implementing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in large, medium and small business settings. Now I combine these endeavors as Senior Planner with Harris County Community Services Department Office of Housing and Community Development in Houston, TX. A holistic viewpoint arises bridging the public and private sectors, learning history from many disciplines and scaling equivalent concern for the individual, associations and society through generations and across the globe. Sustainable development lies at nexus between 4 planning aims: environmental restoration, economic development, social equity and longevity/security. Long-standing interest in climate change effects on coastal communities led to grad work at TSU Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School, an HBCU providing excellent teaching in 2004-2007. Research interests include sea level rise, energy transition and adaptation planning. Goals include teaching the future to adapt to/mitigate climate change w/ applied science and best-practice planning tools. ABD.
