| Introduction | I have been thinking about starting a blog for a while but never made the decision to do it but last week; some incident took place and gave me the push. My son and I have a slight difference with the rest of mums, dads and children at his school; both of us speak English with accent. Despite the fact that my son was born here, my husband and I (both foreigners here) decided to raise him trilingual, therefore; he is able to speak three languages, being English the weakest one. Now I can see how naïve we were when thinking that our efforts to give him such an advantage would be appreciated for the community, proudly we presented my son to the school one year ago, sadly I see that instead of welcoming our son and praise his achievement of fluently speaking two languages at the age of three, one year has passed and neither my son nor I have been given the chance to be part of their community. Children don't want to play with him and parents still don’t speak to me at the school gate. I decide to write a diary about our experiences and day to day life at his school, as a probe for myself that we did make the effort. |
