| Introduction | Tropical Breeze is a Sydney tropical garden filled with a wide variety of unusual and rare tropical plants seldom seen in gardens here. Tropical plants are my 'obsession' so come and take a stroll through my garden and see the array of plants, collected on our trips to the Top End and Far North Queensland that are growing and thriving here. Where Crotons and Cordylines flourish in lightly shaded areas under the canopy and plants with strange sounding names such as Tabernaemontana, Mussaenda, Graptophyllum, Pseuderanthemum and Posoqueria grow. Tropical Breeze will be open for the last time with Open Gardens Australia on 7-8 February, 2015. We open the garden to show that tropical gardens can be grown in Sydney; even in the suburbs with frosts. Our share of the money from the gate takings is always donated to a charity. I am a qualified Horticulturist - my love of plants led me into this field. Tropical plants have been growing in Sydney since the 1800s and many of these can still be found in older gardens and in our own Royal Botanic Garden. Yet it is widely thought that you can't grow tropical plants here. |
