| Introduction | I am a diplomat and human right activist and have represented my country at the UN in Geneva and the UN in New York. I believe that we are shaped by our surroundings and so I count myself fortunate to be have been born in South Africa – to have marched to the beat of Nelson Mandela’s drum and to have witnessed my country transform itself from a land of oppression to one of freedom and democracy. The history of my country has inspired me to seek for others that which we in South Africa have earned for ourselves, not through miracles but through policies and programs that promote human rights achievement for all. So, on this blog I write personal essays on issues related to human rights, social justice and cultural diversity. Some of my articles have been published. I am currently writing a novel entitled, “Where the Dervishes Whirl.” I participate in a mentoring program called “Women and Foreign Policy” and am a board member of the Afghanistan Women's Writing Project. I live in New York and Johannesburg. My books and photographs are my treasures. Cooking is my time-out. Travelling is my passion. And my favorite past time is to be with my husband and family, especially my nieces. |
