About me

Introduction	Dear Summers-Knoll Families, Jan Biliti here. I am teaching music at Summers-Knoll this year. My friend Jan Mattke enthusiastically encouraged me to apply to your child's school, and am I happy I did! Such learners! We study music concepts using a process the composer Carl Orff dreamed of while trying to prepare future audiences for his symphonic music. Your children sing, play pitched and unpitched instruments, creatively move, dance folk dances, chant, read melodies and rhythms by imitating me, then exploring by changing one element, followed by improvisation, and finally creating a musical piece. Music classes are held Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, with Susan Carpenter's class coming at 12:30 pm., Will's class coming at 1:30 pm., and Elaine's class coming at 1:35 pm. Stop in and join us! In my 21 years of music-making at the elementary level, I've seen many parents enjoy our instruments or dancing or singing with us.
