| Introduction | Richard was nineteen years old when he joined the Army in August 1969 as a way to avoid the draft. He hoped to serve as a machinist for two years but instead the Army decided to make him an infantry soldier and send him to Vietnam. Richard served as a "grunt" on search and destroy missions in the jungle for over ten months. During that time he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Richard wrote a book about his experience in the Army titled, "21 Months, 24 Days". It is available on Amazon. For further information, go to his website at www.21months24days.com. |
