| Introduction | I've been kicking around music circles since I was a sixth grader playing trombone in the elementary school band. Being forced to learn the bass clef became a unique advantage when I bought a bass guitar and started my first band at 16. We weren't any good, but we learned a lot about working together. I spent a summer when I was 18 studying in Scotland, where I bought my first electric guitar and started a little band with my fellow students. Over the next 21 years I've found that music has always had a prominent place in my life. One way or another I've always had a music project going, whether it be recording an independent record with my old bandmates, or trying to learn to frail a banjo. I never would have thought that a traditional folk instrument like the banjo would have been the instrument I was meant to play, but once I'd decided to learn this style everything suddenly fell into place. My goals are simply to continue practicing each day and take the material that people have written regarding this approach and work my way through. Hopefully it will be a lot more fun than this rather sterile description :) |
