| Introduction | After twenty years of teaching belly dance at NYU and other locations in New York City and the Boston area, Jennifer Sears currently teaches yoga and English in New York City. Also a fiction writer, her work has been published in academic journals and magazines. Jennifer began dancing in 1986 with Leila Gamal during recovery from adolescent anorexia nervosa. In 1992, she began studying and teaching with the Boston-based The Goddess Dancing and Sacred Source Belly Dance, and also studied traditional belly dance and performed in clubs. Since moving to NYC, Jennifer has studied with Sufi dance/meditation with Dunya, Butoh with Maureen Fleming, belly dance with masters from the US and the Middle East, and Arabic at American University Cairo She received her MFA in Creative writing from Columbia University.
