| Interests | I am a fiction writer with a modest publication record in "little" magazines and journals. Most of my adult life has been dedicated to literacy in one way or another. If I am not writing fiction or poetry, I am teaching college students how to write, or helping my service sorority run a library in a small town. I also serve as secretary on another library board in yet another small town. Most of my writing focuses, not surprisingly, on small town life in the flyover country of the Midwest, where life is a little slower, perhaps, though not any poorer in terms of hope and despair, desire and apathy, calumny and righteousness, viciousness and goodness, than it is on either of the coasts. Currently, I am working on a a sequence of stories entitled "Cabin Creek," set in a post industrial small Midwestern town. Here the characters struggle to free themselves from the net of the past and the pitfalls of desperation, as represented by a cultish religious group that takes advantage of the town's dispossessed citizens. |
