| Introduction | I am the creator of the website ExploringBooksforChildren.com. I have been in the field of education and children's literature for over 35 years. I taught young children for 7 years. In 1975, I obtained a Master's in ECE and wrote a book entitled PARENTS ARE TEACHERS, TOO!. In marketing my book, I saw a need for early childhood teacher resources and formed a mail order company, Early Childhood Bookhouse. I started a children's bookstore in Portland and in 1982 purchased a second store, Book Barn for Children in Beaverton. I have taught children's literature at two colleges. I was an editor of a quarterly newsletter which focused on reviewing children's literature for teachers and parents. I currently tutor children in reading and adults in ESL. I act as a consultant to teachers and librarians and enjoy bringing authors and illustrators of kid's books to the Portland area to talk to children in elementary schools. My life has become devoted to children's literature and the importance of early childhood literacy for all emergent readers. |
